Funny Stuff

21 January 2007 by Bob

Well, I’m sure most of you heard the dirt about Dr. Dino — i.e., the idiot got ten years — but the real part that cracked me up came from another fabulous site. Some highlights:

We conservatives have grown accustomed to liberal activist judges perverting justice for their own evil ends. Last year Judge Jones betrayed us all when he passed his verdict in the Dover school-book case. Shortly afterwards, our dear friend Kent was convicted of tax evasion. U.S. District Judge Casey Rodgers will sentence the Hovinds at 9 a.m for the alleged crime of tax evasion. They claim that he and his lovely wife Jo owe the state almost one million dollars in unpaid taxes. A quick review of the case show that the federal court unfairly denied Hovind’s sensible and truthful defence: Kent owes no tax because everything he “owns” is really property of God. This is a fact that we would all do well to remember! So please dear friends, join me in prayer this morning. Let us pray to Jesus that Kent and Jo will be allowed to continue their important ministry and continue teaching young scientists about the many flaws in Darwin’s theory of evolution.

There are some great pics on this blog — like the one found here (that one’s definitely going on my wall) — and you should definitely check the Atheist Conspiracies section, as well as the great War on Terror section.

Great stuff.

Bunk, Bunk, Debunk

21 January 2007 by jimmer

A number of items in this bag of tricks and sleight of mouth.

First a protest by Moslems over their portrayal in the “Hit” series 24.
Muslims protest “24″
The overwhelming impression you get is fear and hatred for Muslims,” said Rabiah Ahmed, a spokeswoman for the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations. She said Thursday she was distressed by this season’s premiere. “After watching that show, I was afraid to go to the grocery store because I wasn’t sure the person next to me would be able to differentiate between fiction and reality.”

I wonder what reality she is talking about? The reality of their delusions of the god of Abraham? This just struck me as particularly funny. I wonder if she is able to discern the difference between reality and the fiction of her god?

Second, we have a nice presentation from CNN
Anderson Cooper with James Randi debunks Syvia Brown.
This is more than we could hope for. Maybe The tide is really turning in favor of reason and truth? Syvia Brown along with John Edwards, James Van Pragh as well as many others. Each and every one of them Have fraudulently and deceptively made millions of dollars from the despair and grief of far too many people. With religious opinions being considered as having validity it is hard to inform people of this bullshit. I am happy that a main stream media presentation was done to air this sort of nonsense.

And last but not least Naomi sent me this amusing spider vid. All I can say is “ENJOY”

Zeus Revival!

20 January 2007 by Stardust

ZeusThetisWe often joke about how worshipping gawd is like how the ancient Greeks worshipped Zeus, but there seems to be a few folks in the world who actually believe that Greek mythology is real!

Zeus worshippers demand access to temple

ATHENS, Greece – After all these centuries, Zeus may have a few thunderbolts left. A tiny group of worshippers plans a rare ceremony Sunday to honor the ancient Greek gods, at Athens’ 1,800-year-old Temple of Olympian Zeus. Greece’s Culture Ministry has declared the central Athens site off-limits, but worshippers say they will defy the decision.

“These are our temples and they should be used by followers of our religion,” said Doreta Peppa, head of the Athens-based Ellinais, a group campaigning to revive the ancient religion.

“There should be respect for people who want to express their religious feelings in a different way, that is not the typical Orthodox or Christian way,” Peppa said. “We should not be stopped or denied our rights.”

Orthodox or Christian way,” Peppa said. “We should not be stopped or denied our rights.”

What a crazy-ass world we live in!

Women and Religion

Religion and Women: Chains That Still Bind

As a freethinker and a feminist, I have always found it baffling that women, as a group, are more religious than men. Every public opinion survey reveals this “faith gap” between the sexes, in spite of the fact that the world’s major religions have treated women as inferior beings throughout most of human history. [...] “Now I ask you if our religion teaches the dignity of woman? It teaches us the abominable idea…Augustine’s idea–that motherhood is a curse; that woman is the author of sin, and is most corrupt. Can we ever cultivate any proper sense of self-respect as long as women take such sentiments from the mouths of the priesthood?”

You can click on the pic for a link — and I’d also suggest taking a look at Woe to the Women: The Bible Tells Me So.

This and That

19 January 2007 by jimmer

GodlessTwo things we can count on this year. First that the debate between the believers and the rest of us will continue. Second, the Gladraggers will sell us out each and every time. The first link is to Sam Harris dialogue, Second link is to a news article that gives me such little hope that our voice is being heard.

“God is not a Moderate”. A blogosphere dialogue between Sam Harris and Andrew Sullivan. Atheist and Xian, So far it is pretty good. More here:

The reason I have not identified with a Democratic politic is contained in this article. I am so disinclined at voting for someone on party lines. I look forward to the day when Men and Women can run for political office and truly serve out of respect for our freedoms. Instead we get these Gladragging assholes
A Democratic strategy

Well I don’t seem to be able to get this pic to stick properly so I am filling in some space. Stay tuned for some mindless drivel.

“Now That She’s Back in the Blogosphere…”

17 January 2007 by Eve

barcelonaHappy New Year, GifSters! Hope everyone had a great Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, Three Kings’ Day, and/or __________ (fill in holiday of choice)! I sure did miss you all, and I’m so happy to be back *sniffs, wipes away tear from corner of eye.*

I included Three Kings’ Day in my holiday well-wishing because that was the big celebration in sunny Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, where I spent my vacation (our Spanish commenter Zipi’s hometown, possibly?). The windless, bright days were in the ’50s (Fahrenheit) and the mostly windless, dry nights in the ’40s, just perfect for walking, which I did until my feet practically fell off. In my humble opinion, Barcelona is a city best appreciated on foot because of the gorgeous architecture almost everywhere you wander, and for an Art Nouveau (Modernism to the locals there) fan like me, there’s a building to stare and point at on every street and around every corner.

An evening trip to the local Wax Museum at my eight-year-old niece’s insistence strongly reminded me of GifS and the current series I’m behind on (I’ll have the next installment of Hunting Witches in Print up ASAP, I promise!). After recalling Zipi’s mention of a street named after Ramon Llull, a Catalan theologian and mystic harrassed by Dominican Inquisitor and Directorium Inquisitorum author Nicholas Eymerich, I actually found myself face to face with Llull’s wax counterpart in the medieval section. Previously, I had already located his street on a map of Barcelona, but his inclusion in the wax museum truly brought him more to life for me (no Eymerich figure, though).

The 12/30/06 bombing of Madrid’s Barajas Airport was sobering news for all of us, but we didn’t let it interfere with our enjoyment of the trip. Even with its risks, travel is truly one of the best things in life for me; I learn so much by physically stepping out of my usual little microcosm that I don’t think I’ll ever get enough. Still, it’s great to be home, especially since I live in South Florida; all I can say to those of you in far colder climes is brrr!

Calling All Atheist Families

17 January 2007 by Bob

Just wanted to pass this along…

CNN Wants to Hear from You

A producer from CNN is looking for a family that has adopted the life stance of atheism (living life without belief in god/gods) as their position in the community, at school, at work and with other family members. She is interested in recording how they live their lives as proud atheists and the intolerance they face. Some of the questions she would like to ask are: what are the consequences of being an atheist family? Is there fear in being found out? Have negative things happened to anyone in the family as a result of being discovered to be from an atheist home? Is the family “playing it safe” by keeping their philosophy/lifestance quiet? The producer would like to hear from you if you have an interesting story to tell (sad or otherwise). She is also interested in finding a family that may be involved with a current issue that would be of interest to the viewing audience.

Remember when you contact them to remind them how we teach our kids hatred and intolerance, how we always eat our first-born, and how we’re infiltrating the government and society in order to take over the world.

You know, stuff like that…
